World Animal Week - We can all help
September 22nd 2006
To celebrate World Animal Week, and to raise much-needed funds for the Fiji Islands Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Doggy Dooz and Onsite Pet Care Services will donate $1 from every walk, visit, dog training consultation, groom, bath and microchip implanted between the 4th and 10th of October to Fiji’s only provider of animal welfare services.
‘Through a discounted microchipping day held in July, we have already managed to raise $193 for neglected animals in Fiji,’ says Christie Reeves-Tate of Onsite Pet Care Services, ‘now we are hoping to reach the $1000 mark!’
Pet owners who take advantage of the discounted microchipping service being offered 4th-10th of October will not only be doing the right thing by their own pet, but will be bringing enormous benefits to cats and dogs on the islands of Fiji.
‘The funds donated so far has enabled us to run a massive free neutering and vet clinic in a rural area that usually has no access to veterinary services,’ says Emily Reeves, Media and Public Relations Advisor with the SPCA.
‘The additional funds will make it possible for hundreds more animals to be desexed and this is really important because there is a massive stray dog problem in Fiji which results in many animals being poisoned,’ she said. ‘Lessening the number of strays directly prevents suffering.’
The public will also be encouraged to support the SPCA by making donations of money or toys. A donation tin and a box for donated dog and cat toys can be found at Doggy Dooz—once full the box will be shipped to Fiji where it will help bring some happiness to the strays.
